EXPRESS CHECKOUT

After the first round

After having watched the first of the US presidential election debates of the year, followed by yesterday’s showing of vice-president hopefuls Joe Biden and Sarah Palin politely coming to heads at their debate at Washington University, one can’t help grow tired of the litany of soundbyte-ready catchphrases used over and over again by the candidates. It is unfortunate that the effect rather defeats the purpose of debating in the first place, ultimately leading to the slight but inevitable side-stepping of answering questions head-on. But no surprise there… So while the pundits enjoy spinning general consensus and tallying the score cards, enjoy Mark Fiore’s latest portrayal of Sarah Palin in ‘John McCain’s Fireside Chat’ — an imitation so apt that neither opponent nor supporter can fail to notice.
