Israel’s bomb attack on a Gaza beach, which killed eight Palestinian civilians, including three children, continues to be condemned.

The protest staged by a group, including President Ehud Olmert’s daughter, Dana, outside the home of IDF Chief-of-Staff Dan Halutz calling him a “murderer” has outraged hard-line right-wingers. A right-wing extremist filed a criminal complaint against Dana Olmert. Activist Itamar Ben Gvir, one of the organizers of the campaign against Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, filed the charges against Dona Olmert and her leftist friends for calling Halutz a “murderer.” Yediot Aharonot newspaper reported Ben Gvir had previously been tried for calling Knesset Member Ran Cohen by the same term in a demonstration in 1997. The Israeli press also questioned the attack and Yediot Aharonot newspaper ran the head line “Tragedy on Gaza Beach.” David Grossman, an Israeli novelist, wrote in Maariv: “The image of the girl on the Gaza beach, whose life was torn to shreds before our very eyes, should pull us out of the hypnotic coma we have been in for years” and he asked how long they will accept being subjected to fatal attacks and retaliation.
